Evelyn M. Hunter Edwards was born August 04, 1926 to the late Solon I. Hunter and Rosie Carter Hunter.  She was the second of nine children.  On September 01, 2016, she was ushered into the holy presence of Jesus Christ.  Her parents and five siblings preceded her in death.  She joins a great cloud of witness and her husband of 48 years, Spurgeon H. Edwards, Sr. who passed away June 26, 1994.  Five children were born to this union.

Evelyn joined Seminary AME Church at an early age and later united with St. James AME.  After marriage to Spurgeon, she joined St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church where she remained until death.  She served in several capacities and auxiliaries; Usher, Choir, Pastor Aid, and Mission Society to name a few.  She was also treasurer for New Home Cemetery Association for several years.

She accepted Christ Jesus as her Lord and Savior and loved to talk abut Him and to Him in prayer.

She had a loving wit about he that would bring laughter, but she could set you straight too.  She did not hold back on her opinion.  She said it came from her mother.

Fondly known by many as "Sis", she loved her family, her church, her friends and community.  There was no place like Stephens, Arkansas for her.  When she would visit her children, she wouldn't stay long because she wanted to get back to her beloved Stephens; it was home.  She was a loving wife and mother.

Leaving cherished memories to: three sons, Oliver B. Edwards (Maggie) of California City, California, Michael D. Edwards and Spurgeon H. Edwards, Jr. (Carol) of Little Rock, Arkansas; two daughters, Joyce Wilkerson (John) and Gwendolyn Kim Jordan of Little Rock, Arkansas; two brothers, Joseph Hunter of Los Angeles, California and Solon P. Hunter of Milwaukee, Wisconsin;  one sister, Rosie M. Alexander (Paul) of Stephens, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Jared Wilkerson (Elizabeth), Jason Wilkerson both f Little Rock, Arkansas and Navy PO2 Javon Wilkerson of Whidbey Island, Washington, Linton J. Edwards of California City, California, Army Specialist Jordan Glass of Little Rock, Arkansas, Cameron H., Joshua D., and Alexiz G. Edwards all of Little Rock, Arkansas; one great-grandchild, Presley Rose Edwards of California City, California, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  We will all miss her deeply.
