Carol Ann Hickerson Mitchell was born in Magnolia, Arkansas to the late Tom and Myrtle Hickerson on June 10, 1943, and gained her angelic wings on November 1, 2022. She was a vivacious and talented teen who excelled in music. Before she graduated from Columbia High School, she participated in and won local and statewide piano competitions. She shared virtuosity in a National Competition in Carnegie Hall in New York. She graduated from Arkansas AM&N College, (now UAPB) in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
After teaching in Arkansas for several years, she moved to California and embarked on a new career. She managed Securitas Holdings, Inc. in Los Angeles. After retirement, Carol returned to her southern roots and made Fordyce, Arkansas her home. She united with the Greater St. Mark AME Church n Thornton, Arkansas under the leadership of the current pastor, Rev. Johnny Orr, where she attended regularly and shared her expertise in preparing many delicious dishes throughout the years. She loved to travel, shop and cook for others.
She was an active member of the Fordyce Club where she served in many capacities, recording secretary, Thanksgiving Give-Away, scholarship committee, chairperson for the National Fordyce Club Banquet, Fundraising Chairperson for the New Fordyce Club and anywhere that she was needed.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Anthony Reed, her God Brother; her family, numerous cousins, and two sisters in Christ, Brenda Perry and Dorothy Penix, who cared for Carol.
Viewing will be from 10-11 at the Greater St. Mark AME Church in Thornton, Arkansas. Funeral service will be at 11AM at the same location. Full obituary will be posted at a later date.
