The Life and Legacy of Mr. Charles Albert Peters
We were born to die, and we die to live.
2 Corinthians 6:9
Charles “Pete” Peters’ life’s journey on this earth is now complete. He
passed peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 26, 2022. Born
August 17, 1942, to Milrene Todd Pace and Harry Boyd Peters, in
Camden, AR, Pete was a friend to many, a man of greatness and
possessed the leadership skills of a giant.
At an early age, Charles confessed his faith in Christ Jesus. He
accepted salvation and united with the St. James A.M.E. Church in
Camden, AR, with his beloved grandmother, Mrs. Jimmie “Jeanette”
Shannon. After relocating to Magnolia, Pete joined the St. Phillip
A.M.E. Church where he served faithfully as a Trustee and choir
member. Serving on various committees, he filled in wherever and
whenever he was needed. Charles later became a dutiful member of
the Free Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of
Rev. Billy Williams.
Charles graduated from Lincoln High School, Camden, AR,
AM&N/UAPB, Pine Bluff, AR (B.S. Degree) and Southern Arkansas
University, Magnolia, AR (M.A. Degree).
Charles’ life was noted for his service and commitment to the
community. He was a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.,
a member of the Camden-Magnolia Chapter and he worked diligently
with the Columbia County Branch of the NAACP. Charles was
employed as an educator in the Stamps School District, a social
worker and retired as a window clerk at the Magnolia Post Office. The
Post Office served as the gate that allowed him to touch the lives of
the area youth as well as the elderly. Charles was kind, caring, always
willing to help with a big smile. He encouraged, advised and
cultivated the talents and character of many lives. With his
photographic memory and love of reading, Pete could confidently talk
with anyone on any subject from sports to politics.
His strength was deeply rooted in those things that last, a deep love
of family, honor and responsibility, kindness and a giving heart.
“Forever a strong Black man that shall be forever truly missed,” says
his niece, Kristal Ford.
