Ollie Goodwin Obituary

Ollie Vera Draper Goodwin was born July 6, 1928, to Charlie Lee Draper and Savanah Johnson Draper. She transitioned to her heavenly home September 16, 2022.

Growing up in Smackover, AR she was a very active student and basketball player. She graduated Valedictorian, Class of 1946. Ollie accepted Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist where she served in several capacities.

In 1946, she prayed for a husband and good provider, and the Lord sent her James Goodwin. After a short courtship, they married on September 14, 1946. Their union lasted until March 21, 1994, when James went to be with the Lord. Five children were the blessing from their marriage: Janice (d. 2018), Harvey (Vernitia), James (aka Bug), Thomas (d. 1988), and Clifford (d. 1971)

In 1969, James was called to be the Pastor pf Greenville First Baptist in Fordyce, AR. Ollie took the role seriously of being a pastor's wife and served in the choir, a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years, and active in Mission. Not only was she very active at Greenville, but she also delighted in serving at the district level for the Greater Bradley District and at the state level. She was the district President of the WMU for a number of years. Another way Ollie served was her generous heart to open her home to strangers and friends. If she knew you were coming, there would be a good home cooked meal awaiting you. She was well known for her light as air rolls and best ever peach cobbler.

After the death of her husband, Ollie decided to go to work as a greeter at Walmart. She expanded to other roles in the store and retired at the young age of 88. Many people loved seeing her smile daily at the register and she was lovingly known as "Mrs. Ollie."

When asked about her greatest accomplishment she said, "being a pastor's wife and mother." She was delighted to be called 'Mom' by children from the church as well as others in the neighborhood, and she will be remembered fondly and greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her two sons, 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation and funeral service will be at the Greenville Baptist Church in Fordyce, Arkansas.
