Mrs. Ruth Lee Candler Johnson was born in Ouachita County on August 22, 1927 to the parents of Sam Candler and Irene Pace Candler. Ruth committed her life to Christ at a very young age and eventually became a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church. She was active in the church, singing in the choir and working in the kitchen until her health began to fail. Ruth was married to John Henry (Jack) Johnson for 55 years before his passing. They had 7 children. Three children and 5 grandchildren preceded her in death. Children: Murl Johnson Lockhart, J.B. Johnson Sr., and Mildred Johnson. Grandchildren: DeBraylin McDowell, LaChaundra Wallace, M.C. Johnson Jr., Antonio (Faheem) Johnson, and Cheryl Johnson. In 2003 Ruth moved to Texas to stay with her children where she remained until her death. She enjoyed rotating between five homes but always wanted to go back to "God’s Country" her nickname for Arkansas. She leaves a treasure of memories to her remaining children, M.C. Johnson Sr., John Johnson (Carolyn), Walter Johnson (Kanitra), Barbara Johnson; a special grandson she raised as her own, Harold "Bubba" Johnson (Janet); grandchildren, Demetrius, Felicia, Laura, Arqueen, Chaune, Phillip, Michael, Belinda, Carolyn, J.B.
